To celebrate 4th of July weekend, we got something out our archives for you: Who’s the common ancestor of President George Washington and Queen Elizabeth? It’s a Huguenot refugee! Nicolas Martiau (1591-1657) who left the island of Ré in France because of religious persecutions, took refuge in England before sailing to Jamestown, Virginia. This makes him the great-great-great-grand-father of the first president of the United States of America! Happy Fourth of July to All! Today Saint Esprit’s Vestry met for our annual Vestry Study Day. Thank you to the The Huguenot Society of America for hosting us. Our agenda included a discussion of vitality and viability in mission and resources. One area where we agreed to step up our game: becoming more environmentally friendly. Our Rector and two of our new Vestry members got in on the action right away! #CreationCare #WardenReport Aujourd’hui notre Consistoire s’est réuni pour sa journée d’étude annuelle. Merci à la Société huguenote de nous avoir accueilli dans leurs beaux bureaux. A l’ordre du jour, une discussion sur la vitalité et la fiabilité de notre mission et de nos ressources. Parmi les aspects où nous pouvons faire davantage? Mieux prendre soin de notre environnement planétaire. Notre Recteur et deux de nos nouveaux membres se sont lancés dans la tâche immédiatement!

The Du Trieux family crest, hanging in the French Church amongst 54 #huguenot family crests installed in the mid 20th century by the then Rector who contacted Huguenot descendants to recreate their family crests using heraldic devices in enamel paint on copper. Philip Du Trieux led a small two-ship flotilla carrying 32 Walloon families and helped build New Amsterdam (New York). He was one of the first parishioners of the French Church which then shared a room above the settlement grist mill, and a Minister with the Dutch Church, now known as Marble Collegiate Church @marblechurchnyc ✝️💒⚓⛵🕊️ Les armoiries familiales de la famille Du Trieux, exposées dans l'Église française parmi 54 armoiries huguenotes. Ces armoiries ont été installées au milieu du 20eme siècle par le Recteur de l'époque qui avait contacté les descendants huguenots afin de recréer leurs armoiries avec de la peinture d'émail sur du cuivre en utilisant les descriptions héraldiques. Philip Du Trieux mena une petite flotille de deux bateaux transportant 32 familles Wallonne et aida a construire New Amsterdam (New-York). Our 2nd location in NY on Pine Street erected in 1704 and where we worshipped until 1831. The bell 🔔 survived and can be seen (or heard...) in Trinity Saint Paul's - New Rochelle. Come celebrate Thanksgiving with us this Sunday, November 18. Holy Communion at 11:15am followed by a reception. Any contribution to the refreshments (especially fresh things that have to be purchased on the day (bread) and any of your favorite traditional Thanksgiving dishes would be very much appreciated.) All welcome!

This Sunday we will celebrate our African members during our annual Afrique Fête celebration! Everybody is warmly welcome to the service either at 9am or 11:15am. The 11:15am service will be followed by a reception with African food, dance and music in the garden.

The tickets to our annual Summer Party are available! Please join us to celebrate the French students and volunteers who have made this program possible since 1885.

Huguenot Sunday, April 22nd at the French Church du Saint Esprit - Holy Communion at 11:15 followed by a reception hosted by the members of the Huguenot Society of America. All welcome! The medallion's Latin motto is taken from II Corinthians 4:9 - "Struck down, not destroyed"; with the word RESIST on the arms of the Huguenot Cross.
